AGATA - News from Cologne

Publications - Phys. Rev. C

APS

New results of two experiments performed at the LNL, Italy, are published in the APS journal Physical Review C [Phys. Rev. C 93, 054325 (2016)]. The publication with the title High-spin structure of 134Xe presents new high-spin states in 134Xe on top of long-lived isomers.

First results of the experiment 11.22 performed at the LNL, Italy, are published in the APS journal Physical Review C. The publication with the title Light and heavy transfer products in 136Xe + 238U multinucleon transfer reactions presents experimentally determined reaction details and compares them with recent theoretical models. A new particle-coincidence method allows to discriminate different reaction types like fission and multi-nucleon transfer reactions. Three different detector systems, namely PRISMA, AGATA and DANTE, were employed. AGATA was used to measure gamma-rays, x-rays and neutron fluxes in order to identify and quantify the reaction products.

All physics publications connected with IKP Cologne and AGATA are listed in the Publications section.

AGATA @ GANIL

GANIL

After two years of operation at the GSI AGATA is currently moved to the Grand Accèlèrateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL). With the uprising new accelerator facility Spiral2 high intensity beams of radioactive ion beams will be used in combination with AGATA to study r and rp-process nuclei, shell closure in the vicinity of magic numbers and the nuclear structure of very heavy elements.

New physics based on experiments with AGATA were published. A listing can be found at the Publications section. Furthermore new contributions from the Cologne group to conferences and workshops are listed in the Talks and Posters section.

Publications - EPJ A

EPJ A

Two new publications are printed in the European Physical Journal A (EPJ A).
The article with the title
Improved energy resolution of highly segmented HPGe detectors by noise reduction is describing a method to improve the energy resolution of segmented HPGe detectors close to the theoretical limit and a new value for the Fano Factor is determined utilizing the position sensitivity of the AGATA spectrometer.
The second article Correction for hole trapping in AGATA detectors using pulse shape analysis describes a correction method for hole trapping in neutron damaged segmented HPGe detectors. It is based on the position sensitivity of the AGATA spectrometer and a model for the collection efficiency of charge carriers inside HPGe detectors.

Publications - Einblick durch Gammaquanten

PJ

A picture of the AGATA Demonstrator at LNL made it to the front page of the Physik Journal distributed by the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. With a circulation of about 60000 copies it is one of the most important physics journals in the German-speaking community.
The connected article is an overview of gamma ray spectroscopy with radioactive ion beams and modern spectrometers by J. Jolie, P. Reiter and N. Warr from the IKP of the University of Cologne.

Publications - AGATA Advanced GAmma Tracking Array

Elsevier

The big overview article on AGATA - Advanced GAmma Tracking Array is published in Elsevier's Nuclear Instruments and Methods Physics Research A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment journal. With more than hundred authors from 52 organisations this article is a complete overview of the detector array, including the detectors and cryostats, mountings and infrastructure, electronics and data aquisition and software and simulations for AGATA.

11th AGATA week Darmstadt 2011

IKP TUD

The 11th AGATA week 2011 in Darmstadt, Germany, was successfully performed at the Darmstadtium conference center.
A complete list of all talks can be found at the official webpage. The talks held by people from Cologne can also be found in the Talks and Posters section.

The AGATA Demonstrator at LNL

AGATA Demonstrator

The AGATA Demonstrator with five fully equipped AGATA triple cluster detectors is operational at the INFN Legnaro, Italy.
The spectrometer comprises an unprecedented amount of 555 fully digitised HPGe channels. Online data processing includes pulse shape analysis to determine the position of each interaction within the array. Gamma ray tracking algorithms are based on this information and track down the path of the detected gamma rays, allowing e.g. precise Doppler corrections and high peak to total ratios.
A variety of experimental methods were employed, like differential RDDS-Plunger measurements and coincidences with reaction products detected by the PRSIMA spectrometer.

Publications - Three new articles in NIM A

Elsevier

Three articles from Cologne concerning AGATA are accepted for publication in Elsevier's Nuclear Instruments and Methods Physics Research A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment journal.
The liquid nitrogen fill level meter for the AGATA triple cluster detector
Space charge reconstruction in highly segmented hpge detectors through capacitance-voltage measurements
Determination of space charge distributions in highly segmented large volume HPGe detectors from capacitance-voltage measurements
