Final Circular

13.08.2008

Dear Colleagues,

This is the third and final circular for CGS13, the 13th International Conference on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics, to be held at the University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany, from 25th to 29th of August.

This circular contains information on the transportation to/from the venue, registration and fees, about the scientific program, social events as well as instructions for the conference proceedings manuscripts. The information included in this circular can also be found on the conference website http://www.ikp.uni-koeln.de/cgs13/ .

The venue for the conference is the Physics Department (Physikalische Institute) of the University of Cologne, Zuelpicher Str. 77, 50937 Cologne. It is easily reachable via public transportation. The closest tram stop “Universitaet” (line 9) is 2 minutes walk to the physics department building. Another convenient tram stop is “Eifelwall” (line 18). From international airports round Cologne (e.g., CGN, DUS or FRA) take the train to Cologne central station (Koeln Hbf) and afterwards use public transportation (U-Bahn: http://auskunft.kvb-koeln.de/). Coming by car is possible, but we strongly recommend to use public transportation to reach the venue. Additional information including a map of the area around the institute and other useful web links is available on the conference website:

http://www.ikp.uni-koeln.de/cgs13/service.html.

Registration combined with a Koelsch beer reception will be held at the conference desk on Sunday 24th of August from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The registration is also possible from Monday to Friday during conference times at the conference desk. Participants who have not yet paid the registration fees will be asked to pay the corresponding amounts in cash at the conference desk. The full fee is 350 Euros and the Students' fee 275 Euros, both including lunches from Monday to Friday, social events and conference proceedings. Companion fees amount to 150 (120) Euros including social events with (without) lunches. A cash dispenser is located close to the venue. Except for countries where it is difficult, it is preferable to have a bank transfer to the conference account. This is especially easy and free of charge for participants from Euro-zone countries. In case you have transferred your fee by bank, but not received a confirmation from us yet, please bring a document stating your bank transfer.

The sessions of the conference will begin on Monday morning (25th of August) at 8:45 AM in Lecture Hall 2 (Hörsaal II) in the physics building and end in the late afternoon on Friday (29th of August). A wireless access to Internet will be provided during the conference week. Please note that the talks in electronic form (MS office, OpenOffice, PDF) need to be installed on the presentation computer before the session starts, except in cases when overhead projector is going to be used.

Tuesday evening is the poster session. The prize in honor of the memories of Jean Kern and Raman Subramanian (Founder’s Award) will be awarded to the best poster presented by a postdoctoral fellow or a graduate student. Please note that the maximum poster size is A0 (841 × 1189 mm = 33.1 × 46.8 in). Please inform us in advance if your poster is oriented landscape.

On Tuesday there will be a trade fair at the symposium, called CGS-13 Exhibition, where products related to the conference will be presented. We encourage all participants to use this unique opportunity to meet the producers for the benefit of both sides.

On Wednesday afternoon there will be an excursion to the lovely town of Linz followed by a romantic boat trip back to Cologne down the river Rhine.

The conference banquet will take place on Thursday evening (28th of August) at 8:00 PM in the Schokoladen Museum, the “sweetest” and most visited museum in Cologne, on the banks of the river Rhine.

The conference program is available on the conference website:

http://www.ikp.uni-koeln.de/cgs13/doc/prelim_schedule.pdf

where you can check when your talk is due. Note that invited talks have 25+5 min and contributed talks 15+5 min.

The conference proceedings will be published by AIP. Detailed authors instructions as well as templates in LaTeX or MS Word are available online for the 6x9 inch format at http://proceedings.aip.org. Invited talks will have up to 8 pages, oral contributions will have up to 5 pages, and poster presentations will have up to 2 pages. Figures should be in black and white. The manuscripts will be collected from 25th to 29th of August at the conference desk in electronic form or can be submitted as an attachment to the conference email cgs13@ikp.uni-koeln.de. Please make sure that all of the files (text, figures) are grouped together (directory, archive, etc).

Looking forward to seeing you at an exciting CGS13 soon!

Sincerely yours,

The local organizing committee
