CologneAMS is the new Centre for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at the University of Cologne. A dedicated Tandem Accelerator with a maximum voltage of 6 MV and various analysis beamlines is presently erected at the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Laboratories for sample preparation are provided by the Institute of Geology and collaborating institutions. Start of standard operation is expected for the end of 2010. CologneAMS is supported by the DFG and the University of Cologne.

July 2010: A full time postdoc position is presently offered within the working group "Coastal geomorphology and Geoarchaeology". Details can be found here.
  • (07/2010): The second CologneAMS user workshop on July 9 and 10, 2010 was attended by more than 120 participants.

  • (05/2010): The final parts of CologneAMS have been arrived on May 18th and are installed presently. A first test operation of the accelerator is planned for July 2010.

  • (05/2010): An article about the present status of CologneAMS has been published in GMit and can be downloaded here.

  • (03/2010): Dr. Tibor J. Dunai from the University of Edinburgh, School of Geosciences has accepted the offer of the University of Cologne to become Full Professor for Geology (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) within CologneAMS.

  • (11/2009): The GFZ Helmholtz Research Centre for Geoscience in Potsdam and the University of Cologne signed a contract about a long-term collaboration using CologneAMS.

The 6 MV Tandetron Accelerator is build by High Voltage Engineering Europe B.V., Amersfoort, The Netherlands. The machine is completely set up and tested in Amersfoort before it is dismounted and transported to Cologne.
